Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince

2009, PG-13, **1/2

Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Michael Gambon, and Maggie Smith

J.K. Rowling is back with her Hogwart’s wizards once again on the big screen.

It’s the sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft. The wizard and muggle worlds Lord Volemort and his henchmen are increasingly active. Professor Dumbledore (Ian McKellen, “Lord of the Rings” Series) persuades Slughorn (Jim Broadbent), back from retirement to become the potions teacher. In the midst of the new potions course, Harry and Dumbledore face try to defeat an evil rival.

I must say, “The Half Blood Prince,” wasn’t as good as I expected. I was semi-bored, although I have to remember it’s a series, and sometimes that means you have to thoroughly appreciate the whole bit of it, in order to follow an installment.

Most of the film consists of high-schooler flirtations between Ron and Lavender, and Harry and Ron’s sister, Molly.

As I appreciate this film, and the other ones I’ve viewed, I must say I still see Dumbledore as a Gandalf figure in Lord of the Rings, only he is with a Potter, not a Hobbit.

Check this one out on DVD, unless a true Potter fanatic.
