007: Quantum of Solace

2008, ***, PG-13

"Quantum of Solace," directed by Marc Forester (“Monster’s Ball”) and partially written by Paul Haggis (Director of 2004’s “Crash”) is not up to par as the sequel to “Casino Royale,” which I felt was a “very cool” intro for the new James Bond, Daniel Craig. While Craig is great, the story line is a bit disjointed and to be honest I was disappointed. “Quantum of Solace” continues the adventure as Bond is on a personal mission to find out who was behind the effort to blackmail the woman he fell in love with, Vesper Lynd. Having captured Mr. White, at the end of Casino Roylae, Bond is determined to uncover the truth, and take the necessary action. M (played again by Judi Dench,) is at her best as Head of MI6, which learns of a signigficant crime organization, Quantum, that was behind blackmailing and has other nefarious plans in the works.

Of course Bond runs into another beautiful woman, the feisty Camille (Olga Kurylenko), who leads him to Dominic Greene, (Mathieu Amalric) a ruthless businessman and member Quantum. Bond discovers that Greene is conspiring to take total control over one of the world's most important natural resources. Bond must keep one step ahead of the CIA and terrorists to figure out Greene’s plan.

While the flick isn’t as exciting as some of the other Bond films, there are some serious explosions and chase scenes, a wild n crazy battle of the boats and some one-on-one fighting with the bad guy.

In summary, the film had interesting characters but the story was more subdued than we are used to for James Bond. If you are a true 45 year Bond fan, you will be very satisfied, but otherwise, wait for the DVD and view it on your own big screen.
